ORIC QAU - Empowering Innovation Connecting Visionaries

Quaid-i-Azam University is recognized as a research-intensive institution of higher academic standards and its graduates receive acceptance in universities and research institutions the world over. Quaid-i-Azam University is committed to the vision of transforming Pakistan into a knowledge-based economy and encourages academics to translate Research & Development (R&D) into new business ideas that will benefit the country’s economy. Innovation is an important prerequisite for technological and economic development. Our institutional research activities prioritize social responsibility. The crucial aspect of our research is geared towards finding solutions to the challenges faced by the local community.

The volume, quality and diversity of our research activity is unmatched in the country. We have a distinguished history in research and development stretching back over more than 50 years. Exceptional record of continuously growing research productivity shows the limitless potential of faculty and scholars of QAU to produce innovative research projects.

The large number of research publications (1585 in 2017 and 1543 in 2018 and 1641 in 2019) of QAU shows the pace of work, potential and determination of QAU faculty to vigorously pursue university’s vision. The Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has ranked QAU as the top public institution of higher education in Pakistan. The University has the distinction of having many distinguished scientists and educationists as its faculty members, holding national awards and international recognition.

Currently, the University has four faculties and nine other teaching and research institutes, Centers and Schools. Briefly included; Faculty of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Medicine (affiliated) Area Study Center of Africa, North and South America, Center of Excellence in Gender Studies, National Institute of Pakistan Studies, National Institute of Psychology, National Institute of Historical and Cultural Research, National Institute of Asian Civilizations. For growing educational and technical needs of the country, the University imparts quality education to more than 10,000 students enrolled in the University’s different academic programs.

Quaid-i-Azam University has been receiving funding grants for their research and development activities from donors such as HEC (Pakistan), Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (Agricultural Linkages Program), Pakistan Academy of Sciences,NESCOM, NIH (USA), DAAD (Germany), TWAS, Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), Deakin University, Australia and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Funding in Research and Development has grown in the past decade, with the aim of improving the research culture.

QAU has also established research collaboration with universities/research organizations in the United States, Europe and South Asia. QAU has signed MoUs with University of Darussalam Gontor Indonesia, South Kazakhstan Pedagogical University, Beijing institute of Genomics, University of Sheffield, Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) North Arizona University, USA in 2017-18 and with Institute of Technology PETRONAS SDN.

ORIC QAU - Innovation Collaboration Explore

BHD Malaysia, Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) North Arizona University USA and Bingol University, Turkey in 2018-19. QAU is also committed to collaborations with national organizations and signed MoUs with National University of Medical Sciences in 2017-18 and with Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University, University of SWAT, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and University of Malakand in 2018-19.

QAU is committed to provide a research and development environment to support industry in Pakistan. Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad has signed four contract research agreements with NESCOM, Global Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd. and Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) during fiscal year 2017-2018 and again four contract research agreements with NESCOM and Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) in 2018-19. QAU has signed Licensing agreement with Apple Laboratories in 2018-19 for Natural Product Research Group of QAU.

QAU had ongoing 88 projects amounting Rs.342,319,891/- in 2017-18 and 99 Projects amounting Rs. 345,571,900/- in 2019-20. Thirteen projects amounting Rs.87,923,385/- had been completed in 2017-18 and 41 projects amounting Rs.110,883,420/- were completed in 2018-19. Twenty four projects from HEC amounting Rs. 126,692,114, four projects amounting Rs. 700,000/- from NESCOM, one project from Pakistan Academy of Sciences of Rs. 2,140,000/-, one project amounting Rs. 1,500,000/- from Global Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd. And two projects amounting Rs. 1,699,745/- were secured by QAU faculty in 2017-18. QAU faculty members were awarded 15 Projects from HEC amounting Rs.45,586,483, three international projects amounting Rs.2,617,400/- and four projects amounting Rs.200,000/- from NESCOM in 2018-19.
